Gas Well Education Day

Chief Field Tour

Chief recently participated in the Lycoming County Gas Well Education Day organized by the Lycoming County Gas Exploration Task Force.

The event was designed to provide law enforcement and first responders with information about safety and security issues related to gas exploration.

Attendees heard presentations from gas industry representatives and were given a tour of Chief's operations.  The tour visited a drilling site, water impoundment and compressor station.

Community Meetings Educate Residents

Chief recently held public meetings in Somerset and Blair Counties to educate the community about the company's Marcellus Shale development plans.

Jason de Wolfe, Environmental Affairs Manager at Chief, said, "we find that people have a lot of incorrect information and these meetings give us a chance to clear up any concerns."

Chief holds a public meeting before drilling in any new area.  Public and elected officials, first responders, business owners and local residents are invited to attend.

Attendees are given the opportunity to ask questions of Chief employees and air their concerns about drilling in the Marcellus.

To date, Chief has drilled wells in both Somerset and Blair Counties and has several more permitted.

Fit-4-Natural Gas

The Northern Tier and Central Region PA Careerlinks, with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, implemented the Fit-4-Natural Gas program to provide foundational industry training for individuals interested in pursuing entry-level positions created by employment opportunities in the Marcellus Shale.

The program combines the expertise of Pennsylvania's workforce development system with technical training coordinated through the Pennsylvania College of Technology to provide a training program geared toward roustabout and roughneck employment opportunities.  Programs will be held in Bradford, Clinton, Tioga and Lycoming Counties.

Chief invited the students to tour a drilling rig in Lycoming County for on-site training.

 Chief Sponsors
 Lycoming Creek Clean-Up

In an effort to combat public litter in the Williamsport area, a group of students from Penn College organized a clean-up event near Lycoming Creek.

The event was organized by Earth Smart, an academic club with a goal of promoting environmental issues both on campus and in the community.

In recognition of the students effort, Chief made a donation to sponsor the event.  The donation funded equipment, such as gloves and trash bags, and disposal expenses.
