Environment
Chief Oil & Gas is committed to protecting the ecological integrity of the rivers and streams throughout Appalachia, northern Texas and Utah. We understand that for daily life, farming and the environment there is nothing more important than clean, fresh water and Chief is committed to protecting it.
Chief Oil & Gas has drilled in the Barnett Shale in Texas for more than a decade and is proud of our environmental track record of efficiently and responsibly managing water resources.
Chief Oil & Gas works closely with all regulatory agencies to ensure that drilling is conducted in a way that will not have a detrimental impact on the states' natural resources and to ensure no harm can come to the water supply.
Drilling for natural gas does not pollute groundwater, as the gas is extracted from an area far below the water table and is protected by multiple layers of casing and cement.
While the frac fluids used for fracing are proprietary to companies, Chief has voluntarily disclosed the names of all chemicals used at a drilling site to the states' regulatory agencies. This information is on file and is available to landowners, local governments and emergency responders at the drilling site.
Natural Gas: A Green Energy Choice
- Natural gas is one of the cleanest fuel choices for electricity and transportation. It reduces air pollution and improves air quality.
- Natural gas burns nearly twice as cleanly as coal and 28% more cleanly than petroleum, making it by far the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel.
- Natural gas is also much cleaner when it is used as a vehicle fuel, such as compressed natural gas use in buses. For heavy trucks and buses, new natural gas vehicles can cut toxic soot pollution by 75% to 90%, while smog-forming pollution is reduced by about 25% compared to conventional diesel vehicle.
- Drilling for natural gas does not pollute groundwater. It is protected by layers of casing and cement, and the gas is extracted from an area far below the water table.
- Horizontal drilling, which maximizes gas production from each well, also allows for multiple wells from one drilling pad site, reducing the surface footprint needed for development.
