After over 50 years of exploration by multiple companies in the Central Utah thrust belt (Hingeline), the 2004 discovery of the Covenant Oil Field proved that this region contains the right components for large accumulations of oil. The Covenant Field is one of the largest Rocky Mountain discoveries in over 30 years. It has regenerated significant interest in the Utah overthrust belt.
Chief has a leasehold interest in over 250,000 acres, primarily in the Central Utah thrust belt, and plans to run seismic imaging to evaluate prospective drilling areas.
