Appalachian Basin

Appalachian Basin

The Appalachian Basin is a mature producing region with a longer drilling history for oil and natural gas than any other basin in the continental US. Today, high energy prices, improved drilling and completion technology and advances in seismic imaging are converging to establish a new target zone for natural gas – the Marcellus Shale. The USGS estimates the shale reserves could be as high as 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Chief Oil & Gas drilled its first well in the Marcellus Shale in 2007 to begin its ongoing drilling program. Chief has a leasehold interest in more than 350,000 acres in the trend targeting the shale gas.
